Common Questions About These Walks

We've answered what people ask most often

Are the walks suitable if I don't walk very much anymore?

Yes. All the walks we've featured have been tested by people who aren't regular walkers. They've got benches every 5-10 minutes, cafés along the way, and you set the pace. There's no time limit or competition — it's about enjoying the harbour and the company.

What about rainy days? Do the walks happen in any weather?

Most walks happen rain or shine. But if it's really bad weather, people tend to do the market stroll indoors instead. The craft shops have tea and conversation without needing to be outside. In Kerry, we say there's no bad weather, just the wrong clothes.

Can I go on these walks by myself or is it better with a group?

Either way works. Some people do them alone and enjoy the quiet. Others join the local walking groups that meet twice a week. If you're going solo, let someone know your route. The walks are busy enough that there's usually someone around if you need help.

Do I need special shoes or equipment for these walks?

Comfortable walking shoes are all you need. Most of the routes are on paved harbour paths or through town streets. Bring a light jacket because the wind can pick up by the water, and a small bag for any craft purchases. Water and snacks are good to have, though there's always a café nearby.
